Mixer, trowel, toothed trowel such as 10 x 10,soft rubber trowel, sponge trowel, bucket with rollers.
Floor tiles such as terracotta, KAMSTAR brick tiles should be glued to a concrete screed (we recommend priming the concrete screed) using a normal thick-coat tile adhesive. If underfloor heating is used, use a suitable adhesive – flexible (such as WIM ECOFLEX, Sopro SF 450).
Terracotta and brick tiles should be laid on a thick layer of adhesive (about 10 mm) so that there is no air void under the tiles. We recommend that you apply a comb of glue to the glued surface and separately apply glue to each tile – a combination method of gluing. In this way you can level out all the irregularities and differences in tile thickness. Keep in mind that the material is more than a century old and not perfectly even due to the manufacturing technology of the time (hand-formed tiles).
Surface preparation for impregnation
After the glue has set, clean the surface of dirt and wait for it to dry completely (in the case of wet cleaning – we recommend a microfiber mop, which will perfectly wash and not wet the substrate heavily). If the tiles are stained with glue, sandpaper can be used.
Impregnation
Dirt free and dry surface must be treated with ProtectGuard WL Semi Gloss (glossy) or Flat finish (matte) . If you wish to grout wet, such as glazed tiles, we recommend applying one coat of impregnant before grouting (ProtectGuard WL impregnant can be diluted with water using 1 part water to 4 parts impregnant). Apply the waterproofing with a brush to the maximum saturation of the surface (spread the excess product on the surface). Use at temperatures above 10-30 degrees C. DRY MIN. : 24 H BEFORE GROUTING. For exterior horizontal surfaces, we recommend using undiluted ProtectGuard WF.
Minimum joint width of 5 mm to 20 mm. After thoroughly mixing the grout, pour it on the impregnated surface (1 layer of impregnant left to dry for a minimum of 24 hours). Then spread the mortar/ grout evenly. It is convenient to use a trowel with rubber (for grouting ceramic tiles). After evenly spreading the grout, when it begins to dry slightly (2-3 min), using a trowel with a sponge, start washing off, frequently rinsing the sponge with clean water. After a tide of 5-8 hours after grouting, we recommend washing the tiles with a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar or Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & cement. Allow the grout to dry completely (min. 72 hours). Then apply two coats of undiluted waterproofing at an interval of 20 minutes on a dry and clean surface. This will also provide optimal protection for the grout. Note that the consumption of waterproofing when applying successive coats decreases significantly.
Grouting (semi-dry method)
Minimum joint width 8 mm to 20 mm. The consistency of the grout should resemble moist soil. After thoroughly mixing the grout, spread it on the impregnated tiles (1 coat of impregnant – 24 hours after application). Using a grout gun, press the grout between the joints. It is important to remember to sprinkle the grout with water (between 5 – 10 minutes after grout rubbing) so that it can cure properly. The activity is recommended to repeat a few times if possible. Allow the grout to dry completely (min. 72 hours).
Then apply two coats of undiluted waterproofing at an interval of 20 minutes on a dry and clean surface. This will also provide optimal protection for the grout. Note that the consumption of waterproofing when applying successive coats is greatly reduced.
